Young Eagle's Wings
We
begin life with "young eagle's wings,"
Only large enough to do the basic things.
Feathers are added as we grow . . .
From parents, school, and those we know.
Some feathers are large and some are small,
But each is important, one and all;
Lessons in life they are indeed.
The path we follow, they will lead.
Giving feathers to others, we need to do.
Give feathers to Young Eagles and they will remember you.
The feathers we give are what they know,
So give them feathers where you want them to go.
We used our feathers to give us flight,
So help some Young Eagle to acquire that right.
Give them a lift along their way
And flight will be theirs one fine day.
My Indian fathers saw the need.
They gave feathers for each great deed.
But those kinds of feathers don't last.
They have all turned into dust of the past.
So, in the end, all that will remain
Are the "feathers" we give and our good name.
