Interim Newsletter for June, 2000---------!
Yes, I know, we were to have the summer off, but there are things afoot that need to be shared, and information that needs to be passed on.

Chapter President Clint Allen has been working hard with EAA Chapter Office, the City of Willow Springs, Missouri, AVEMCO Insurance Company and St. Louis FSDO to get the necessary insurance, waivers, NOTAMS and aerobatic performers committed for a September 9, 2000, Fly-In/Air Show.

He has accomplished his part of the task. It is now up to the committees to do their part to assure a successful event. Hence this interim newsletter.

NEW MEMBERS:)

Before we get to the heart of the matter, a pause is in order to welcome new members to the Chapter, recruited by VP James Wiley. They are:

Kevin & Sheila Bunch, Willow Springs, MO.

Dan & Rosemary Gilbert, West Plains, MO.

Mike & Sharon Vaughn, Summersville, MO.

Ron White & Tom White, both of Willow Springs, MO.

"A word from the President" - - Allen, that is:

"We are looking forward to a successful Fly-In/Air Show sponsored jointly by EAA Chapter #1218 and the City of Willow Springs.

"Insurance has been obtained as well as the necessary waivers from the FAA for the event.

"Several committees have been appointed, both by the City of Willow Springs and Chapter #1218.

"My approach to committees is simply that I choose people capable of doing the job, then get out of the way and let them do it.

"Success depends upon the committees doing their job, and I expect we will have a successful event."

Here are the committees and chairpersons for Chapter 1218:
  • Tents: James Wiley
  • Food: Bill Marx
  • A/C Judging: Jerry Luna and Berlin Batesel
  • Promo: Len Ahrnsbrak, Mike and Sharon Vaughn
  • Ultralight Aircraft & R/C Models: Ron Wade
  • Young Eagles: Jerry Luna
  • Women's Craft Tent: Marge Allen and Jean Ahrnsbrak
  • Air Boss: Ron White
The City of Willow Springs will provide crowd control, automobile and aircraft parking, security, overnight camping for aircraft, antique automobile display, portapotties, electrical service, and the public address system.
Here is some specific information that may answer some questions about the Fly-In/Air Show:
  • It is sponsored jointly by the City of Willow springs, Missouri, and the South Central Ozarks Chapter #1218 of Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).
  • This is, for insurance purposes, a Class III event. This means that aerobatics may be performed as long as there are no paid performers.
  • Overnight camping for aircraft will be available.
  • Young Eagles will be flown.
  • A Chapter booth will need to be manned to take memberships to the EAA, Chapter #1218, and to let the public know what we are all about.

So, plan to assist one or more of the committee chairpersons if you are able. In that regard, we will have an August Chapter meeting to make sure all is ready to go. This will be an important meeting for all members. Try, therefore, to attend.

The meeting will be at Ron White's hangar, which is located on the west side of the runway at Willow Springs (1H5) Airport at 9:30 AM, Saturday, August 12, 2000. You are welcome to come early at 8:00 AM for breakfast at the hangar. Do plan on being there. Here is an "online" copy of the flyer: Fly-In and Air Show

Biographies for June are missing.....
We will have some for the July newsletter.

Do you ask, "Why no bios?"

One reason is that we had planned to have a free summer, another is that there tends to be some reluctance on the part of some members to prepare such. I think one person went all the way to Europe to get out of the task.

However, I will persist. Two new members have already agreed to provide bios, which we'll share next month.
