July/August Update and Reminder!
This is a quick reminder that we have an August meeting scheduled on the 12th.

The meeting is to be held at Ron White's hangar on the Willow Springs airport. Breakfast will be served at 0800, with the meeting beginning at 0930. Please do all you can to attend because there is a lot to be decided. If 0800 is too early for you to make it, do plan on arriving in time for the meeting. I know that extra 1.5 hours will make it easier for those of you who will be driving in.

Here are some of the areas where you may be of assistance:

  • Help for Bill Marx and his food preparers and servers
  • Help at the Chapter ladies craft table
  • Help getting Young Eagles safely into and out of aircraft
  • Help at the Chapter table to explain and discuss EAA membership

James Wiley will be conducting the meeting on the 12th and will probably have more assignments for us at that time.

Thanks to Mike and sharon Vaughnfor the preparation and provision of the flyer in which this update is enfolded (for mailing). They provided us with 500 for mailing to airport managers, local newspapers, EAA chapter presidents and southern Missouri and northern Arkansas, as well as randomly selected EAA members in the 65XXX and 72XXX zip codes.

You are encouraged to copy the flyer and post it on the bulletin boards in your area so as to get the greatest amount of exposure possible. For those of you flying in to the event in September, please notice the traffic pattern information on the back of the flyer.

Right-click on the image at left, choose Save Picture As..., and you will have the full-size image file on your computer. Open it in any image-editing program and print out full-size (8 1/2" x 11") copies for posting to bulletin boards.
Print out three of these to a page, cut them apart, and tack them next to the flyer for people to take with them.

Oshkosh Report
Apparently the weather gods were trying to make up for the scorching weather given to AirVenture '99. Unfortunately, they overdid it a bit, at least for the Friday and Saturday part of the event.

We were rained on, with low ceilings and fog, from central Illinois to Oshkosh. The power line pole tops were out of sight most of the way to Wisconsin. Early morning fog and rain plagued both days, yet the drive-in crowd was great. The "North Forty" camping area for aircraft was pretty much filled (early birds) before the weather went sour.

Where's the Cockpit?
NASA's Guppy arrived IFR and drew quite a crowd. More in the August newsletter.
