Hello, Members!
I hope you all had a very nice Thanksgiving
with family and friends.
What is that old saying, “It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good?”
Well, we’ve had some windy days, but the flying has been pretty good
anyway. One day, flying to Willow Springs with power set at 100 knots,
ground speed was 128 knots! Pretty good for the Tomahawk. Everything
evens out, though, and the return trip was at 87 knots. Oh, well, more
time in the logbook. There were some days following that when it was
just too beautiful not to fly, so it was great to get out and go
sightseeing. I hope you did the same. Now that daylight savings time has
ended, and the days are getting shorter, it will be a little more
difficult to find good flying days. Take good care of little birdie,
though, and be sure she is ready when there is a nice day for flying.
November Meeting
It was a beautiful day to fly to our
November breakfast meeting. The breakfast was just wonderful. There were
several new members and guests enjoying it with us. We welcome you all,
and hope you will find your niche within the Chapter. After the meeting,
some members went outdoors to clean and paint sealer on the concrete
benches for the winter in one of the last short-shirtsleeve days of the
season.

During the meeting, the annual
election of officers was held. The entire slate of officers from 2007
was renominated by the nominating committee, and elected without any
nominations from the floor. So our officers for 2008 will continue to be
Tom White as President, Berlin Batesel as Vice President, Phyllis White
as Secretary, Jim vokac as Treasurer, and John Smith as Board Member at
Large.

December Meeting
Now we are getting ready to celebrate
Christmas. Since our December meeting is early in the month, it should
be possible for everybody to attend without conflicts from other
scheduled activities with family. We will have our annual Christmas
dinner and member service recognition time. Phyllis White will be
“coordinating” some of the needed dishes for the Christmas potluck, but
if you are not asked to bring a particular dish, please bring something
suitable in the way of a side dish, salad, bread, or dessert. She will
be asking for some help with decorations, too. The date is Saturday,
December 8, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. We will eat first, then hold the meeting.
FYI for new members: we don’t have a gift exchange, so just come, relax,
enjoy meeting with your friends and sharing a good meal.
Dues
The collection of Chapter dues is an
ongoing thing right now. Please get your dues paid as soon as possible,
preferably on a meeting day. This makes life a lot easier for our
Treasurer, Jim Vokac. He has to prepare a current roster of all
Chapter/National members and submit it to HQ by the end of January. He
needs your National member number on the roster, so have your card ready
if you don’t have it memorized. Every year we have been having a crunch
at the end of January to get those dues in, and every year some people
are late. We can’t read minds as to intentions, so those people get left
off the membership directory for the year — which makes the directory
less useful to all the members. Also, at the time you pay your dues,
check with Jim to be sure he has your current contact information,
especially your e-mail address for the newsletter and announcements of
Chapter activities.

Since there haven’t been any official Chapter activities since our last
meeting, this is a short newsletter. Hopefully everyone is staying well
other than a few colds that always seem to come with the change of
season. It will be nice to gather again Saturday afternoon for the
meeting. Until then, be good for Santa, and tailwinds!
