Greetings, Members!
Did you have a nice Easter? It came so early this year that it was quite a cool day. The rains continue. Too wet to make garden yet, but nice gardens have been started as late as the first week of June and yielded bountiful crops. We always hesitate to wish away rain, because we might be wishing for it two weeks later, and especially in July and August. The grass runways are boggy, but the paved ones are great between storms. Phyllis sent a picture of "Lake EAA" that she took with her cell phone on March 18. The creek was flooded.

If you look carefully, you can see the water level at the top of the creek bank behind the trees.

March Meeting
Our "theme" potlucks just keep getting better and better. The traditional Irish dishes on the table in March were delicious.

Great Irish dishes, galore.

Honoring of St. Patrick’s Day, and the Irish in all of us.

There was plenty of green to see, in food, decorations, and clothes.

After the meal, the meeting consisted of discussion about activities for the year, including finishing some hangar projects in progress, such as the walk bridge over the creek; then we discussed putting up a light in the parking area for nighttime activities, and having a general workday after our next meeting. We need to get ready for another yard sale, probably in June. June will also be the first Young Eagles Rally, on our regular meeting day. Pilots who plan to participate met after the regular meeting.

We are almost finished eating.

Now it’s time for meeting.

And Ray Fine held a safety session on runway markings after the meeting. If you have been following the literature, runway incursions have increased again at all kinds of airports across the country, after many years of declining numbers. The non-observance of traffic patterns is also a problem that Ray emphasized, as this has always been a problem. Remember to "see and avoid," and don't say, "…other traffic in the area please advise." In VMC, all aircraft, including IFR traffic, have the responsibility to see and avoid. Let's all be considerate and safe.

Ray explains a point. His talk was accompanied by an "open book" quiz.

Pat asks a question about a fine difference in signs as Jim listens.

Jim, Mike, Eric, and Tom are all interested in Ray’s answer.

April Meeting
The plan for this month's meeting is to have a potluck breakfast, then start the workday. We might end up having to break for lunch, but it is not a plan at this time. It all depends…

So bring a nice breakfast dish, wear work clothes, and bring any tools you think you'll need. We will think positively for a nice sunny dry day on which get all the work done.

Member Memos
It was with sadness that we received the news of the passing of Pat Daugherty, wife of Dwight Daugherty, on Sunday, March 9. This was not expected. They became members of the Chapter only a few years ago, and have not been able to attend meetings much of the time. Pat had an interest in quilting, and maintained an online business in quilting from their home in Seymour, Missouri. She always loved flying with Dwight in their C-172, and she was learning to fly. Pat left a large family in addition to Dwight and their daughter. They will miss her, but rejoice that she is with our Lord Jesus.

We have some new e-mail addresses. One is for Jack Richardson, and the other is for Jack Hines — both fairly new members of the Chapter. The Chapter directory will be updated and sent with this edition of the newsletter. You may pencil it in on the copy of the directory you have already printed, or you may just print a fresh new one. It's so nice to be flexible.

Kathy Bohemier has been planting ground cover along the bank of the creek near the hangars. Thank you, Kathy. The daffodils along the east side wall of the hangar are in full bloom and looking beautiful. Spring is finally in the air.

We'll be looking for everyone to come to the meeting Saturday dressed in work clothes. Bring your breakfast dish. See you there. Till then, tailwinds!
