David Johnson's Sonex project, "Precious Metal" flew for the first time on June 27th.  David and Lisa were very proud of their bird, and by the accounts of the test pilot the aircraft flew great.

EAA Chapter 1218 Visit
The local EAA Chapter 1218 came out to see the project today. We had a shop full of very interested airplane enthusiasts. It was great!

Painting

No painting - polishing
I have now logged 36 hours polishing the plane, while I'm waiting for my axles. I have applied 3 complete passes using the Nuvite F9 and the finish looks very good. I think polishing might be addictive. I plan to do 1 application of the Nuvite grade C polish. Then after the plane is finished, wings installed, and controls rigged I plan to do another application of the grade C polish followed by an application of the Nuvite grade S polish. This should give the plane a really good shiny finish.
