Twenty plus members viewed “L-Bird, The Little Plane That Did” prior to Mexican potluck at noon.
The May 14, 2011 meeting was called to order with 43 members and guests present. President White thanked the cooks for the delicious meal. He also thanked Don Nevels for the donation of several copies of his book, “Wings, Dreams and Memories”. He also said it was great to see the Tausworthes with us. Guest Mike Walters was welcomed to the chapter. A thank you card from Ben Andre’s family was read. The family donated his Grizzly band saw and several wooden frames he had been working on for the chapter.
A motion to approve the minutes as published was made by Henny Christensen, second by Jack Richardson and approved by members.
Treasurer Jim Vokac gave the financial report. Motion to approve as reported was made by Bob Brantley, second by Jerry Pfister and approved by members.
Future events: Learn to Fly Day, May 21st, FAAST Safety meeting May 19, Branson , May 28, Berryville, May 21, Springfield EAA Chapter pancake breakfast 8-10:30, June 4, MPA State Convention and June 11, Wicks Fly Day, St Louis downtown.
Jack Richardson presented the chapter with a Rutan signed copy of the Voyager flight.
The Pietenpol has been sold and will be headed to the state of Nevada on Sunday or Monday. Tom and Phyllis will pick up the buyer in Rolla late this evening.
New member Luke Walker has been awarded a scholarship to EAA Youth Air Academy in June. President White asked members to consider helping with his expenses. A motion to allow the executive committee to determine the reimbursement amount was made by Bill Ghan, second by Al Grant and approved.
The EAA Air Venture Oshkosh 2011 Awards nominations are due by May 31 if someone has a suggestion.
Henny Christensen has donated a copy of the movie Blaze of Noon mentioned in Don Nevels book.
The June 11 meeting will be 4 PM meal, fried chicken purchased by the chapter, members to bring sides and desserts; motion by Lynn Bentele, second by Al Grant and approved by members. Members will need to reimburse the chapter for the chicken purchase.
President White invited members to participate in the Willow Springs 4th of July festivities. There will be a morning parade with floats, clowns, etc. followed by a cookout/potluck at the hangar, firing of the anvil and cannon.
Bob Coats asked if members might be available to assist flying the Cabool senior class, Sunday the 15th at 5 PM.
