October 8, 2011, 111 signed the guestbook during open house. Lunch was served to over 80. 43 members were present for the annual meeting that followed.
A motion to approve the minutes as published was made by Henny Christensen, second by Tom Bentele and approved.
Treasurer Jim Vokac’s report was approved; motion by Tom Bentele, second by Benny Butler. The biplane mailbox raffle netted $61and sales of Nevels’ and Tausworthes’ books totaled $110.
Copies of several area newspapers featuring Kitty Middleton are available. President White thanked the cleanup crews that helped prepared for the event . As we got closer to the event, the number of helpers got a little weak. President White asked if everyone received the workday notification notes. There were many positive comments regarding our event. Jim Vokac said two guys were here from Springfield after seeing our website. Tom Bentele said there were several comments about the “chauffeur service” from the parking area. President White asked members if they were in Hirsch Feed and Larson Equipment to thank them for providing the vehicles this year. There were guests from the St Louis area, St Joseph, Edgar Springs and several from Arkansas. A man from Texas that read about the open house in the Houston, MO online newspaper called inquiring about purchasing the Don Nevels book.
Saturday, October 15 will be the MPA poker run. 10AM – 2PM starting with your home airport. Prizes will be awarded at 3 PM at the Vaughn hangar, Mountain View.
The November meeting will be held on the 5th due to the start of deer season. It will be a noon meal (leftover burgers and hotdogs from the freezer) plus member potluck sides; motion by Benny Butler, second by John Smith. The business meeting will follow.
October 29 will be the 5th Saturday of the month. We will eat at 9 for pancakes, etc. Members are to bring other breakfast items.
Following today’s meeting there is cleanup to be finished. Banners and signs around town need to be taken down (we reuse them), the Pietenpol, Iwo Jima silhouette and glider brought back in, trash to be gathered, etc.
President called on members of the nominating committee to present the slate of officers. Clint Allen and Bob Brantley were both absent and Jerry Pfister did not have the list. President White read from the September minutes: “Bob presented the slate of officers as president: Tom White, vice president: Berlin Batesel, secretary: Phyllis White, treasurer: David Johnson (Jim Vokac does not want to continue as treasurer another year) and member at large: Jerry Pfister”. Nominations will be accepted from the floor. Tom Young moved the nominations cease and elect the presented slate, second by Jack Richardson and approved by members present.
Brent Humphreys was presented with his 2010 pins and certificates for newsletter editor and web editor. President White commented there are sometimes questions about why something isn’t on the website yet. He pointed out that Brent is very busy but all in all, our website is great compared to several others he has seen with outdated information.
The biplane mailbox raffle was won by Barb Nyden, Jim Vokac’s sister. Fred Kalhoefer was drawn for the nametags turned in from the open house drawing. He won a copy of Don Nevels book.
A big thank you was given to Henny Christensen for portraying Kitty so well and for the video and posters she made for the event. Marge Allen made the skirt to her costume. Thank you, Marge. A big thank you also goes to Mike White for posing with Henny in the Stearman. The Middleton family said they really appreciated the chapter’s effort to pay tribute to their sister and aunt. It was a successful event once again.
