58 members and guests enjoyed the burger cookout prior to the April 9, 2011 meeting.
The family of member Ben Andre was welcomed and condolences were extended for their loss. A video tribute created by Henny Christensen of Ben’s activity with the chapter was shown. His smiling face and willingness to help out with any project will be missed. He wanted to learn to fly and died doing what he wanted, flying his trike.
President Tom White thanked the cooks for the great side dishes and desserts and to the grill cook, Mike White assisted by John Good.
Bob & Carol Coats were at Sun N Fun during the tornado April 7th. Approximately 70 aircraft were damaged or destroyed. Tom & Phyllis and Henny Christensen attended on Friday, April 8th. Tom met and shook hands with Paul Poberezny and visited with EAA President Rod Hightower.
A motion to accept the minutes as published was made by Henny Christensen, second by Mike White and approved.
Treasurer Jim Vokac reported we are registered for Oz Fall Fest. The financial report included the purchase of the large flat screen television. Motion to approve report was made by David Johnson, second by Gary Brandon and approved.
A big thank you was extended to chapter member Ron White for building the cabinet for the television to rest on. It matches the existing cabinets and has storage for the dvd player and has dvd storage drawers. The large screen and elevated position should allow good visibility from all sides of the room.
With the loss of Ben Andre our member at large, the Executive Committee appointed David Johnson as replacement. We thank him for stepping in to that position.
Following today’s meeting, members that are interested are invited to the Allen’s hangar to view progress on the 3/4 Jenny project.
Memorial contribution requests for Ben Andre were to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Ozark Ministerial Services, Food Pantry. President White requested a motion to donate to the Food Pantry (motion by Bill Ghan, second by Henny Christensen). Tom Bentele explained the pantry serves 175-200 families per month most are elderly, handicapped or on fixed income in Ozark County. He said there were times when there may be for example fresh produce that does not fall in line with their distribution date that would not last and he delivers to M.U.N.C.H. in Willow Springs. When he was available, Ben would help out. Following discussion a motion to donate $250 was made by Bob Brantley, second by Phyllis White and approved by members present.
The MPA poker run will be next Saturday, 10-2 p.m. In the past the chapter has donated fuel certificates as prizes for high and low card. A motion to donate two $50 fuel certificates was made by Clint Allen, second By Benny Butler and approved.
Mike Vaughn announced the loss of area pilot Jess G. Brotherton, Pomona this week. It was possibly a heart; he passed away after a night in the hospital. He had wanted to learn to fly and upon retirement he was financially able to do so and purchased the Kelsey’s airplane. Mike said he was another example of a situation of doing what he wanted to do.
Reminder from Henny: April 11, 2009 members took the Wright Flyer down and on April 13, 2009 it was placed in the new terminal.
The next meeting will be May 14th, noon Mexican potluck.
Secretary White announced the 2011 EAA chapter award nominations will be due May 31. Also May 21 is International Learn to Fly Day. George Wilkie was checking on flying some veterans that day but he is absent.
Thelma Batesel asked that we announce the chili supper/auction benefit for her sister Kim Peterman 5 p.m. today in West Plains. Kim is battling cancer.
Motion to adjourn was made by Jack Richardson, second by Mike Vaughn and approved by members. Following the meeting most members went to the Allen’s hangar to view the Jenny project progress.
