June 10, 2010 - International Young Eagle Day.
The meeting was called to order by President Tom White with 39 members and guests present.  A big thank you was given to the potluck cooks.  President White also thanked the mowing crews that took over while he was on vacation for three weeks.   Ten Young Eagles were flown; a big thank you was given to the ground crew, pilots and Y.E. coordinator Bob Brantley.

Pietenpol project report was given by Vice President Berlin Batesel.  He is going to start looking for some more pilots.  It has close to ten hours on it and will need thirty more flown off.

The minutes were approved as published; motion by Bob Brantley, second by Henny Christensen and approved by members present.

In the absence of Treasurer Jim Vokac, the report was given by Secretary Phyllis White.  Motion to approve was made by David Johnson, second by Jerry Pfister and approved by members present.  A CD will be due June 30th.

President White welcomed new member Carl Everhart to the chapter.  He has a beautiful J3 Cub.  David & Lisa Johnson have their beautiful Sonex project ready to fly.   All are encouraged to check out both aircraft after the meeting.

Jerry Pfister reported on the Art Fest.  The chapter was unable to set up a booth with the simulator as planned due to no reliable electrical access.

Missouri Pilots Association’s annual meeting is being held this weekend in Springfield at the Doubletree.

At previous meetings, we have discussed a project tour.  Members with projects are the Allen’s, DeRoos’ and Humphreys’.  John DeRoos invited any member interested in his project to stop by anytime; just call first.  President White suggested lunch at Fred’s Catfish would go nicely after visiting John’s project at Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. Phyllis White made a motion to table the project tour, do our usual 4th of July celebration on July 3rd in conjunction with the Willow Springs parade (fly over, parade float, burger, brats cookout, potluck sides, homemade ice cream, anvil firing) and on July 10th, 4 PM have our regular chapter meeting continuing the American freedom celebration with chapter purchased fried chicken (members to donate that day to offset the expense), potluck sides and homemade ice cream.  A second was made by lint Allen and approved by members present.  The parade officials are asking for historical figures along with clowns.  July 3rd is also the 150th birthday celebration for Mountain View.  The MPA chapter has volunteered to do a fly over there also.  Watch for emails with details for both events.

Jerry Pfister reminded all that June 26th is the West Plains Airport’s 25th anniversary and name change celebration.  Clint Allen spoke to Jack Bowman and he will need assistance with the cookout and aircraft on display.

President White received a call from Debbie with the Cabool Chamber of Commerce requesting our participation in their festivities July 3rd and also September 18th for Old Timer’s Days.   George Wilkie said the airport resurfacing was to begin the end of the month.  George made a motion to fly Young Eagles at Cabool on September 18th, second by Bob Bohemier and approved by members.  Young Eagle Coordinator Bob Brantley suggested we should have Cabool do the advertising for the event.  Bob Brantley said Bill Newton has kids to fly at Mansfield.  Bob said the facilities are not good there; such as no toilet available.  Bill Ghan reported there is now a new toilet at Mansfield.

Sandy Smith said every time she is in Kansas City, she is asked by Garmin people if there is the possibility of Willow Springs having pay at the pump fuel available.  They would love to be able to stop in for lunch and fuel but with cash only fuel and no courtesy car they are unable to do so.  Airport Board Member Mike White said the expense of installing a credit card reader was cost prohibitive.  Doc Openshaw added there is a lot of expense dealing with credit cards.

A letter from EAA, Oshkosh regarding the purchase of bricks for the brown arch was passed around.  Prices are from $350 up.

President White highly recommends the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum, Hood River, Oregon which was toured on vacation.  The website is www.waaamuseum.org.  Also while on vacation, a side trip to visit Jake Schultz, Issaquah, Washington (Seattle suburb) was made.  Jake has been in contact with Bill Ghan and is also building a Pietenpol Air Camper.  He has a beautiful Rotec radial engine ready for his project.  When his project is completed he plans to take a year off from his technical analyst job with Boeing and tour places of interest to him.  EAA Chapter 1218 is now on that list.  He also gave a tour of the aviation memorabilia in his condo which included a case depicting the first 20 years of manned space flight, a Wright Flyer replica, Molt Taylor Aerocar memorabilia and so much more.  It was an enjoyable morning spent with a fellow EAA member and aviation enthusiast.

President White mentioned the donation jar.  A motion to adjourn was made by John Smith, second by Jim Lane and approved by members.
